The UEF Vice-President Tomasz Markiewicz participated at the Forest Europe Expert Level meeting

The UEF Vice-President Tomasz Markiewicz participated at the Forest Europe Expert Level meeting (ELM) that was held on 21 and 22 June 2023 in Dresden, Germany. Signatories and observers to the Forest Europe Process were present.

During the meeting a decision was taken that the important question and the process of supporting the recovery and sustainable management of Ukrainian forests and its forest sector will be transferred to the FAO, with the approval of the Ukrainian side. The team of FAO experts has already held its first meetings in Ukrain

Signatories of the ELM accepted several work-streams for the next period, such as:

Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) and FoRISK - pan-European mechanism of knowledge about sudden and adverse phenomena in forests. The works were divided into three topics: Fires; Pests and Hurricanes. The topic related to green jobs and education was also divided into 5 areas. 

A decision for the 9th Ministerial Conference was also taken. It will be held in Bonn on 1-2 October 2024. An important preparatory element will be the High Level Policy Dialogue, which will take place on 9 November 2023.
