UEF participated in the F-BI Expert Group Meeting on 5th July 2022

The UEF Presidency member - the assistant secretary Mårten Gustafsson, Sweden participated in the regular F-BI Expert Group Meeting that took place on 5th July 2022.

The short meeting was more like a briefing of the difficulties concerning future supply of raw material to forest-based industry.

During the meeting, it was acknowledged that the Ukraine invasion, the bark beetle together with energy costs will set the agenda in the coming years. Discussions were dominated by topics related to basic economics that biodiversity and forest strategy. Member states were more active this time and especially the representatives of Finland, Austria, Italy and Germany.

The meeting was led by a new agency within the directorate. Group has been moved from “raw material and energy-intensive industry” to “construction” agency. No information was given about the cause of the change.
