UEF attended the last Forest based Industries Webex Meeting

The UEF Assistent secretary Marten Gustafsson, the UEF representative in the Expert group on forest based industry in Brussels attended the last meeting of the Group. The Webex online meeting took place on 1st of December 2022, in a virtual way, due to the COVID sanitarian situation.
Main topic of the meeting was the growing up problem with the wood supply to to European building-projects.
The Presentation made by the “new housing sector” showed how the export of the European sawnwood to USA, and the roundwood to China had forced building constructers to look for substitute materials, as wood supply is uncertain and ongoing projects can´t wait.
NGO’s from wood sector wanted commission to react but had no proposals how to do it.
Long term worries for wood supply from EOS also concerning the new EU Forest Strategy, were also mentioned by EUSTAFOR.
Reports concerning trade-issues for roundwood were given.
Finally, reports on bioeconomy and future industry-strategy were presented.
