As full member of the Expert group on Forest based Industry of the European Union Commission, UEF attended the last meeting in Brussels, represented by Mårten Gustafsson, its assistant secretary.
This October meeting was concentrated on the 2050 F-BI sectoral strategy.
This document will lead the work in this group for the next period of European Parliament.
Discussion was good and UEF insisted to keep the “wood supply part of forestry” in the final document.
Both DG Enviroment and DG AGRI want too seize forest matters into their responses.
The Expert group succeded in keeping the matter of “sustainable forest management” in the strategy, which is a good sign for foresters.
Other matters of bigger interest was barkbeetle, and future wood supply in Europe.
