Interesting UEF Presidency Meeting in Poland: 15-17 April 2018

The Union of European Foresters had a fruitful and really interesting Presidency Meeting in Poland.

Our Polish member, SITLiD, invited the Presidency for the spring meeting in Warszawa (Warsaw) and in the famous Białowieża forest from15- to 7.04.2018.

 

The 15th of April,the first part of the Presidency Meeting was held in Warszawa.

Then, SITLiD welcomed the Presidency with its President, professor Piotr Paschalis-Jakubowicz for a trip around the beautiful old town, rebuilt after the WW2.

The dinner in the old town was an opportunity to have an overview of the situation in Poland, also with Jacek Sagan who joined the participants.

 

The 16th of April, the UEF Presidency had a friendly and interesting meeting in the State Forest (Lasy Panstwowe) General Directorate in Warszawa, welcomed by prof. Tomasz Zawiła-Niedźwiedzki – Deputy General Director of SF, representing Mr. Andrzej Konieczny, General Director of the State Forests, by prof. Piotr Paschalis-Jakubowicz, President of SITLiD and Marta Gaworska, responsible for International cooperation.

Michael Diemer, President of UEF, presented UEF and Prof. Zawiła-Niedźwiedzki presented the situation of Polish state forests.

Prof. Piotr Paschalis-Jakubowicz – President of SITLiD introduced the topic of the Białowieża forest, with a focus on the sustainable forest management done by the State Forest organization. 

 

Then the UEF Presidency traveled  by car to Białowieża (230 km from Warszawa)).

In the afternoon, a meeting with foresters from Białowieża Forest District gave all information about Białowieża Forest District. Then, a long and interesting field trip with foresters from Białowieża Forest District allowed to discover and see the famous forest and introduced also the topic of the low level forest management necessary to provide security to the tourists enjoying the social function of this forest.

A warm dinner with foresters from Białowieża FD, Regional Directorate of the State Forests in Białystok concluded the day.

 

The 17th of April, the second part of the Presidency Meeting was held in Jagiellońskie Forest Education Center, really close to the Belarus border. This meeting allowed a large overview of the topics on progress, a planification of the coming meetings and actions, the preparation of the following Governing Council Meeting in Italy in September and all internal matters.

 

After a visit of the Bisons center, a nice travel by car back to Warszawa (lunch on the way) bring the Presidency to the Chopin airport.

UEF Presidency thanks really warmly SITLiD and Lasy Panstwowe for ther nice welcoming, organisation and program, and specially our Polish UEF Vice President, Tomasz Markiewicz.
